Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Borde & Team India Prep for England

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007
Sometimes I wonder what the BCCI's thought process really is. The slap they recieved from Graham Ford is widespread knowledge by now. Whatever on earth prompted them to go after a man who was already contracted till September of 2008, remains a mystery. And then, before even knowing whether or not he was willing or able to terminate the pre-existing contract, they rushed to offer him the most coveted position in international cricket. Well is it really the most coveted position? Clearly not, as Graham Ford's rejection of the offer for continuing his job at a domestic side blatantly shows. It has become clear after Chappel's tryst that coaching India demands tremendous political game, a dirty game that most serious, ...

When National Sports is run by Eggheads and Pin heads

Thursday, April 5th, 2007
A decade and a half ago he called the cricket selectors "a bunch of Jokers"... he was fired from the Indian Cricket Team for this. Today he's the head of the Selection Committee. A few months ago he goes starts acting like a bull-dozer over-riding many of the coach's decisions. The man ofcourse is Dilip Vengsarkar. It would be worth having a look of his facial reaction if he's asked whether he feels "like a joker" today. [correction: it was pointed by Anantha that the "joker" term was used by Mohinder Amarnath.] "There is no need for a coach. The coach is like a manager. Like an elder brother. He should know people management. Nothing much is required from him beyond this" - these ...

Sorry Bob Woolmer… it’s all about MONEY

Thursday, March 29th, 2007
There is a world cup competition for a game. A coach of a nation's team participating in the world event is murdered. Investigations reveal he was murdered. But the cricketing officials, the teams and everyone else involved in the world cup event seems to have developed amnesia. Bob Woolmer who? Each day the game continues as if nothing has happened. Two teams enter the field, fans converge on the cricketing grounds or their TV sets, commentators pick up their mics and advertisers flood in their regular dose of telly-cannabis. It's as if nothing has happened. It's as if each player, sponsorer, umpire, official, spectator and the cricket watching fan's mantra is "The show must go on". Tragic. Very tragic. The memory of someone is ...

The day Pakistan cricket team were bundled out of the World Cup Cricket tournament, Bob Woolmer - the coach for the Pakistani team, breathed his last in his hotel room. He was found the next day and taken to the hospital where he was declared dead. Initial reports claimed a heart attack or a heart failure. Two days ago Geo TV of Pakistan announces Bob Woolmer was murdered in his hotel room. It starts a frenzy all over the media. The Jamaican Assistant Commissioner of Police, gives a press conference announcing that the death sounds mysterious and they are investigating it. There are two things that are floating over all news channels. 1. Bob Woolmer's throat had scratch marks, which some channels indicate that he ...

World Cup : West Indies v/s Pakistan

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007
Story so far. West Indies batted first - 241/9 Pakistan chasing - down by 3 wickets. The game is slow... very very slow... WI made their first 100 at the end of 30 overs... So far it looks like Pakistan may win... what say you?

Those Goddamn Online Games

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006
A few days ago, DT reader and PFC author, Striker, sends me these links to a couple of online gaming sites that have cricket games. I thought I was way past the age - playing video games and all that. Nevertheless I clicked on both the links he sent me. THIS IS GODDAMN CRAZY... Since the day he sent me that email, I find myself spending an hour or two playing those cricket matches online... THIS IS FUCKING CRAZY... Please don't send me such addictive online stuff - I'm GOING NUTS!!! Now I want to spread the disease.... after all if my last few days have gone to waste, I would like to share this lovely experience with DT's readers too. ...

Italy are the World Soccer Champions 2006

Sunday, July 9th, 2006
And it boiled down to Penalty kicks. 5 for each team. France's second kick hit the goal post bar. Italy converted all, and become the World Cup Soccer Champions 2006. The game was tied at 1 - 1. France got the first goal within the first 10 minutes, off a penalty kick awarded to them because of a foul by Italy infront of their goal. Italy's equalizer came in the 19th minutes. And what an idiotic way to go for Zidane. What a disappointing way to end his career - for which no one is to blame but him. Out of pure frustration, with 14 minutes left in the second half of the overtime, Zidane head butts an Italian player right into ...

World Cup Soccer Final : It’s France v/s Italy

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006
It’s a France v/s Italy game on Sunday. France beat Portugal by a solitary goal. A foul in front of the Portugal goal and a penalty kick is awarded to France. Zidane makes no mistake. The Portuguese had ball possession most of the time, but their offense kept running into the French defense wall. Frankly none of the sides showed any spark offensive-wise. The Portugal offense seemed to be playing amateurish soccer infront of the strong airtight French defense. And the number of mispasses by the Portuguese side seemed to be like they were playing a town league championship instead of the World Cup. Why continue trying your flashy no-look passes when you know they are being intercepted by the French players? ...

World Cup Soccer : Italy pushes out Germany

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006
What a game!!! What a game!!! I am still reeling under the classic attack plans of the Italian team. Unfortunately they kept finding the goal post... until in Overtime, in the last two minutes, before the game could move towards the penalty kicks phase. Another dreamy pass to Fabio Grosso and this time his left foot curls the ball right into the net. soc11.jpgsoc2.jpg A minute later... Another of those out of the world passes right infront of the German Goal, and Del Piero force taps it over the German goal keeper. Two goals in the last two minutes of the game. O BOY!!! That was some game. To be fair, Germany rattled the hell ...

Cricket - The DEVILS are back!!!

Friday, October 28th, 2005
The devils are back. They come in and like the Ghost Army (Lord of the Rings) slaughter the opponents leaving no room for them to even look up and say “Uh huh?” This is great. But the tragedy of it is that it a pattern which I have seen often being repeated in the last two decades. Apna (our) devils will soon be defeated and defeated in such a manner as if they never knew what fighting spirit, confidence and cricket mean (exactly in that order). They will look as if they were born with dejection and defeat in their blood and a sense of lost forever. That in short is the Indian Cricket team for us. ...

It is just Cricket….mate!

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005
Ganguly hates Chappell. Chappell finds Ganguly mentally and physically unfit to play for the team. The panel set to resolve the issue finds it was simply a miscommunication and everthing is fine. The BCCI is at war with Dalmiya and gang fighting Powar and camp. Harbhajan is reprimanded for talking against Chappell. Dhoni praises Chappell. Feelers from the Indian dressing room point to the unhappiness of Ganguly’s captainship. Mahendra without exactly speaking the words makes a statement that Chappell is a liar…..Ummm if you are missing anything on the most current mess in our loved cricket team you can get it all here Rediff on Chappell controversy. Bureaucracy and Politics be hailed. Cure the ...
