Sad to see one of my favorite blogs on cinema going down. Kaiju Shakedown, Variety's frontline blog on Asian cinema will be closing it's doors.
Run amazingly with superb frequency by Grady Hendrix (email), the curtains have fallen down on the blog that I would make a point to visit atleast once a day.
Kaiju Shakedown brought me in touch with Asian Cinema, the past, the present and what amazing movies were being made for future releases. Not sure where I'll get my daily Asian cinema vitamin dosage from... came across many movies that I was fortunate to see had it not been for Kaiju...

News flash, courtesy striker. Anna Nicole Smith has passed away.
If you remember, she was the former playmate who married a 90 year old billionaire... and then after his death had been involved in an ongoing court battle with the billionaire's son for the wealth he husband had left behind.
It had been a roller coaster ride for her since then. She put on weight, appeared on reality TV (The Anna Nicole Show), dropped weight drastically, got back her slim trim figure and was back hopping around at award shows and celebrity parties.
It's been just a few months since her son was found dead in a hotel room.

A tragic cloud of sadness rests in some corner of my heart... I just read this news a few minutes ago...
Multi-talented entertainer, writer, and author Sidney Sheldon has died at age 89 of complications from pneumonia.
To think that just this morning, as I woke up and was making tea, standing there waiting for the water to boil, suspended in that vacuum of zero-ness ... when a thought slid in "Sidney must perhaps be the most read fiction writer in India, from the US,... atleast he must have been during my college days, a decade and a half ago..."
Strange. And a few hours later, I sit here reading the news of his passing away. Though such things do happen ...

No... the commotion is about Shilpa Shetty getting bullied and being slapped with Racist remarks on TV right in front of the public.

Shilpa Shetty is on Big Brother - the show which has participants from the entertainment industry living in a house under camera.
Frankly I'm hooked. Though I wish it could be made a little tighter... but then it's a reality show and people do get boring after some time living under the same roof, talking the same stuff...

Well emails like these perk me up and have me jumping on my seat... A big thanks to Ajay Silvojax, for sending in the link to the video, which is now in Desitrain's Video collection.
So what makes Kamal's Marudhanayagam... so special... as per Silvojax's comments the movie "his dream project started before 5 to 6 years ....unfortunately due to many reasons the movie couldn't be completed ..."
I've been hearing about this movie for many years too. I believe Kamal has mentioned in several interviews that it's his dream to complete the movie but the budget constrains lead to the the movie being stalled time and again. Apparently it will be Kamal's most expensive movie to date.

First break from the shit load of work that flooded my office since morning. Luckily it came after I had wrapped up Suparn's post on PFC adding all those pictures and uploading those videos. Hope it helps cine-fanatics out there for whom PFC has become a second home.
It's kind of a going in shell time for the last few days. Too many things, thoughts, ideas, fears shooting around at the same time. Personal, professional and all the rest. As always it's weird to see one thought troubling me and suddenly the next instant there's another thought completely tangent from the first, coming out to rattle my cage.
Spent most of the weekend, reading and watching movies at home. Just finished ...

It's booming videos all over. Just caught this Chiranjeevi video where he impersonates Michael Jackson's thriller video. (Mithun has also done the same in Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki with white potato Salma Aga)
Twenty seconds into the video has left me confused. Should I laugh? Should I cry? Or should I take my pen and stab my skull with it. The video sadly has found it's way on Yahoo's home page. Doomed... specially when Chiranjeevi-jee suddenly opens his mouth to reveal his white fangs... Red leather suit and green eyes... I need to take "Sanyas" from movies.

A Duel... Well atleast that's what controversial German film director Uwe Boll did. His latest film "BloodRayne" was panned by the critics.
So what does Boll do?

Sumner Redstone, the 83 year old chairman of Viacom - that owns the Hollywood company Paramount Studios, started a war of the "starry" worlds recently by breaking away from the golden-boy-gone bad.
You see Paramount Studios was in partnership with Tom Cruise's (yes The Tom Cruise) film production company. The partnership lasted for 14 years. The terms of the partnership, roughly were this:
- Paramount payed $10million each year to Cruise's company as a "retainer" fee.
- Paramount in addition payed roughly around $6million to Cruise's company each year as a discretionary fund to "develop ideas" (Is anyone from Parmount even visiting Desitrain.com???)
- For every movie, jointly produced by Cruise and Paramout, Tom Cruise would get 20 percent of whatever the movie ...

The Film and Television Institute of India arranged a Screenwriters Conference in Pune. The first ever. Everyone who was anyone in Bollywood's criminally ignored screenwriting world was present and given a platform to speak.
Kartik Krishnan, Desi Train's eyes and ears on Bollywood's ground zero, was present at the two day conference held on August 19th and 20th.
After much pushing (from my end... damn me can be so pushy), Kartik agreed and delivered the article which goes into the minutest details of the two day event.

I'm still rubbing my eyes to see if those are real. As soon as I looked at these pictures at Egotastic, I knew only two things could be true
1. I was completely drunk (which I'm not) and plain horny (which I'm always) to have my eyes and mind make up the illusion of the most perfect ass in the world.
2. David Copperfield must have been somewhere close to Biel to have cast an illusion on the camera taking that picture.
That is a perfect "10" ass I've seen in a loooooooong time. She's seen here at the premiere of The Illusionist.

Although it may seem so, I'm not a workaholic. I took one entire year (1990) off thinking I could afford it. I'm one of the few filmmakers in Chennai who takes every Sunday off.
