Friday Fundas: Desi Roommates - 1

Friday, October 12th, 2007
You live in America (or maybe Europe, Australia, Japan or Jhanduland). You live alone. You can manage that. You pay rent. You can manage that. Now suddenly something happens and you start thinking. If you are thinking of having a desi (from India) roommate in your house/condo/apartment/sewage pipe or any place else that exists in a land called "foreign" by desis then this is your 101 Guide. Read it, memorize it, eat it, dream it, drink it and save yourself the misery that 90% of desi roommates will bring to your life. 90%... YOU FUCKING SAID 90%!!! Yes. I've quoted that figure after spending 5 years of my life with Desi Roommates (the roommates in college don't count). Prior to that my ...

I’ve created a Monster : The Unseen Incidents in one year of PFC - 3

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007
Before recalling the night of November 2006 about my chit chat with Anurag over the phone, it's important for me to rewind back to about 10 years ago which would be around 1997/98. That's the time when it all started. Without anyone realizing it. Destiny has some cute little ways of making you smile, when one goes back in the past recollecting those small thoughts, instances, occassions that collected to form a big wave. And when the wave came, you are like "WHOA! Where did that come from?"... and then when you look back recollecting from memories all those tiny things, you give yourself "that" smile. Small, hidden, just for yourself... yes that smile... it's something only Dear Destiny can ...

I’ve created a Monster : The Unseen Incidents in one year of PFC - 2

Black Friday was now out in the theaters for over a week. There was joy, euphoria all around... the emails were flooding in. Calls for congratulations (why me? I had nothing to do with Black Friday). Black Friday had recovered it's investment, thats the info I got. PFC's month long aggressive promotion for Black Friday had succeeded on many fronts. Indian community groups were emailing me if we from PFC could meet them for casual, informal dinners to discuss the future of Indian cinema. Indie cinema... And while all this was going around ... I sat there in my living room with a letter in my hand... I had just been slapped on the face. There was, I clearly remember, ...

It's about 5 am. I groggily wake up and sit for a few seconds on my bed. Barely stumbling over, I make it to my study chair two steps away from my bed. The Mac is switch on, a beep, a few seconds and Firefox is shot open, pointing to it's homepage http://passionforcinema.com... the comments are checked, the spam deleted, the stupidity or the fanaticism placed under a red flag, the comments swiped like Mom would sweep the living room hard tile floor each morning. The right bottom corner of my browser blinks 132 Gmail messages, I log on to my Gmail, and walk out... It's 545am, the sun is still struggling to get out of its dark blanket ...

Some days are fucking fabulous…

Sunday, August 19th, 2007
[Update : here's the direct link to the scanned copy of the article ] One of those posts's where I'll simply shut up and let the quote do the talking... Financial Express. Sunday Edition... Sunday August 19, 05:13 AM Now showing on the net By Sudipta Datta Days after he had launched his blog (www.lagaandvd.com), asking people whether they would be interested in DVDs of Lagaan six years after the movie was made, actor Aamir Khan was overwhelmed by the response. He thanked his fans on the blog, saying, "It's really great to be able to connect with you all directly. First hand, no mediator, no newspaper, magazine or TV channel." When Anil Kapoor was hard-put to explain why a commercial actor was ...

Friday Memories

Friday, July 27th, 2007
I remember five years ago, I made my first feeble attempt at blogging online... was fucked up miserably by strangers commenting on it and did not have the courage to write again for another six months. I remember enjoying the anonymity of being just an "oz" and enjoying shooting posts from the privacy of my office computer. These days if I attend an Indian event in OC or LA... "oz Oh! it's you... eeewww"... somehow if I turn back the hands of time... I remember so passionately wanting to do something in movies... perhaps write, be the green signal a project guy, visual consultant, marketing etc... nothing has changed... I'm still looking for it now with many doubts if it is the ...

Friday Zen : The dot of all our problems

Friday, July 20th, 2007
I was tired of my boss, so I left the job in 1998. I was sick and tired of working in IT, so I left the job in 2007. I'm extremely frustrated with my search for an entry into the entertainment industry. The strain now shows on my relationships with my family... yada yada yada... How could I keep forgetting all the glimpses that I get from those getaways to the spiritual side of the world? Those wonderful moments, the spiritual orgasmic instances that leave me thirsting for more, those forgotten floating weightlessly... And ever so do we get trapped in this world... and I'm no different. Yet Life or the Eternal powers of the Universe have a way to show ...

Adventures in Unemployment : Part 3 (concluding)

Monday, July 9th, 2007
The adult entertainment industry is anywhere from a $10 billion to a $20 billion industry, depending what source you refer to. According to freespeechonline, the adult entertainment industry generated $12.6 billion in 2005, with the adult Internet businesses growing 150% since 2002. Now what the hell does the above statement have to do with my unemployment... you may ask. Clearly there is a connection... as portrayed in Part 1 and Part 2. And I just flowed with the flow. You'll find this "flowing with the flow" quite common amongst the unemployed. It's difficult to pinpoint the reason. The unemployed guy just keeps nodding his head to any suggestion, question, comment and walks ahead. Even for the small ...

Adventures in Unemployment : Part 2

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007
It isn't everyday that you get the key to a secret door leading to a room you never knew existed ever. Though you pass by the room each day of your life... you never knew there was this room, filled with naked ladies, vibrating dildos, men with dicks that would put hammers in your tool box to shame, sex oozing out of the lights of that room... it was tempting to check out the site further given accidentally to me by the lady (Part 1)... It was a secret job site to get into the porn industry. As a writer, technician, cameraman, grip anything you could think of behind the camera on a porn video set. If you were an ...

Adventures in Unemployment : Part 1

Monday, July 2nd, 2007
Ok, the post a day habit seems to have been broken. My apologies. But there is too much going on and life has been quite busy. It's got so hectic, that these days I don't pause the movie, so I can jack off in the bathroom. I now do it right on the sofa while Jenna Jameson is talking to half a dozen dicks in the room. I wonder if unemployment gives you a deeper sense of seeing things in a different way. I really think it does. So now you close your eyes and simply click on the "Apply" button on the employment websites... you've by now realized that your sitting there in front of your computer looking at a ...

The Simmering Anger… the agonizing frustration

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007
Why don't I land up in Bosnia or even an Iraq and take a gun and start patrolling the streets waiting to be shot down by a sniper or an egghead of a kid who was given a gun to stay alive. Why do I continue living in a world that throws fucking shit at me without realizing the crap they are making up, that is so crystal clear for me to understand? When stupid idiots who earn their livelihoods on one movie, a millions spam emails, reading film website everyday and proudly proclaiming that they do not read current news and events... I SHOULD FUCKING TAKE A GUN AND BLOW MY BRAINS OUT for being a stupid fucking idiot!!! ARE THESE ...

Broke-ing Point

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007
"So what do you do?" "Well... I used to be in management... but resigned from my Director's post, to take a break and see what I would "really" like to do... I know it's gonna be Cinema... anything that can make use of my passion, knowledge and experience... oh! You are from Movies... do you have anything for me?" "Hmmpfff... excuse me... I need to talk to someone. Bye" Rewind the above conversation a million times. The person in italics is yours truly. Just keep switching the other character everytime you hit "Play" after rewinding. So what's new? Nothing actually. You already knew all along that this was a tough to break into industry even if you had loads of management experience and passion ...

Recuperating

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007
7 days of 2 hour daily sleeps, watching movies for almost half of the days, constant beer and screwdriver diving, standing, sitting, standing and standing, reaching home by 3:30 pm, waking up at 7 or 8 because Anurag and/or Nishikant are up along with other PFC-ites... it all ended last night after t! and I dropped Anurag and Nishikant at the airport for their flight back to Bombay. It was fun, exciting and it fucking ended too soon. Got my first 8 hour nap in seven days. Still groggy and a bit tired. Will be writing on the IFFLA closing on PFC shortly.

The Sumeet Slide Show : Too Sexy?

Saturday, April 7th, 2007
Sumeet like many of you has been an ardent Desi Train reader. He moved to Orange County about a year ago and since then, my house has become a weekend inn for him. And he's progressed leaps and bounds in pickup and all the things that interested him. Recently he invited me to his birthday party at the Sharks Club, which at one time used to be my favorite Saturday hangout. Following is a slideshow of the pics from the party and a few other pics taken from our San Francisco trip... let me know if it's too sexy or too hot to handle ;)
