The Return of Friday : after 6 months, 11 days, 14 hours, 16 minutes

I’m sitting in an office. The window on my back faces Hollywood hills. The 10 freeway below is packed with cars yet driving is at a steady speed. 6 months ago, I chucked all that I’d made for myself to follow my passion… A little over six months I sit in an office of a firm that is one of the leaders in the entertainment industry.

So I’m here… well partially speaking… cause the entertainment industry wants me for what they think I am good at… IT Management… what the hell I say… I’ll take it. A couple of more grand dollars, an office on the 12th floor, I’m now here… one step at a time.

It’s a beautiful Friday. Haven’t seen one in a long time that did not have me enclosed in my bedroom, staring my Mac, rotating between my resume, latest job openings, emails from recruiters (those bloody recruiters I tell ya) and ofcourse DT and PFC screens.

I’m here… sure I am… working on the biggest techological turnover projects that will change the face of the one of the branches in the entertainment industry. I’m getting a look into what you all will be seeing two years down the line. I’m here. Though not doing what I hoped to do. But perhaps this is best for me at this moment or for the future… or perhaps a path that will lead to the picture that’s etched out in my brain.

I’m here.

The bosses have large tattoos on both arms, one is gay and does the penguin flap, the colleagues are all with pierced ears, funky jewelry…

“No Formals please”… that were strict instructions from my boss who is at the helm of this new design revolutionary project he’s made me a part of.

So no formals it is. Though the problem was, I didn’t have much of casuals on my hangers. So bought half a dozen of my favorites - cargos… I’m telling ya… life would be hell without cargos. Jeans is out for me. But if they come out with great cargo denims, I’ll be the first one to buy the whole store out. Unfortunately they haven’t. Well that’s life at Desi Train.

The mood is fun, the wear casual, the clouds just cleared over Hollywood Hills, the boss is on vacation and I’m writing a Friday Masala from the workplace after more than six months.

I’m here… yeah I am.

There’s no fun in blogging from home. I need to break rules, that’s part of the excitement. So it’s back to blogging from work. I’m here… I am…

… thanks to all of you for encouraging me to move on. And thanks to all those who sent me checks to keep me focussed on the passion and not be bogged down by financial pressures. And lastly thanks for your prayers…

… I’m here… atlast…

… I’m home.

    Oz,
I am really happy for you man. Being gainfully employed is a good feeling :-)

Reminded me of the scenes from old hindi movies where the hero comes home and declares ecstatically - “Mujhe naukri mil gayi maa, Achchi thankhah (salary) bhi hai. Ab chhotti ki shaadi jaldi ho jayegi maaa”. Maa is delirious with happiness ” Bhagwan ka lakh- lakh shukr hai, jeethe raho beta” .She heads to the temple. Chhotti is so happy she breaks out into a song and dances around the trees with her lover.

Ofcourse, none of these apply to you…..but in my joy I had to share this with the reast of the DT readers. And….I know I am making an ass out of myself :-)

  15. Charles Foster Kane aka Antonio Ricci Says:

Oz! Have you seen THIS? Trash-an Adarsh with AK! Very interesting indeed!

  16. Charles Foster Kane aka Antonio Ricci Says:

    Read this too: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India_Buzz/Anurag_has_separated_from_his_wife/articleshow/2443404.cms

WTF?! Is it Subhash K Jha writing under a pseudonym? F*** TOI.

  17. Charles Foster Kane aka Antonio Ricci Says:

It may also be KM. He was definitely very angry after the ‘KM wants revenge’ article on PFC. This is the height of yellow journalism in Indian media. TOI is a master of that. When will the Indian media finally grow up? Oz, I request you to write a post on the growing idiocy of Indian media.

  18. Bishu Says:

Good to see the Desi Train back on track…now awaiting for you to pick up the gears. Oz-bhai wish you ALL THE BESTTTTT

  19. sophocles Says:

Oz, bro - congratulations!!!! hope u like the job and hope u have loads of fun breaking rules…and not getting caught…

can help but remember a scene from a fav film of mine — Arjun. Sunny stands on his terrace at night and looks towards the mumbai skyline. Supriya pathak comes to him and says something about not minding what shashikala was saying. Sunny says ( something like) : Is shehar mein kitne ghar hain, aur in gharon mein kitney log rehte hain..aur in sabhi ke paas koi na koi naukri hai….” the angst..the angst…

But, this calls for beers and booze…so tonite i will have a few tequilas alone.. and celebrate for both of us…cheers to you….

to be honest..it takes a lot of guts to do what you did and to face life with the conviction that you had…if all of us had the balls to do what you dared to …we would perhaps be a lot more happier and not stuck in dead end jobs…

  20. Nadeem Says:

OZ…..Welcome back to the sloggers world…..back to the grind of marao M-F…..:-)

And yeah, Congrats on all the recent recognitions and adulations DT and PFC have been receiving. In all seriousness, you’ve been doing a splendid job on both. And given us movie buffs something to really enjoy.

Let me know if you need any kind of a representation in the DC area to do anything.
