Kabul Express and the Hulla
These days I’m finding myself seeing movies with t! and Sumeet who without a warning drop in my house every weekend… somehow I’ve got Sumeet involved in the art and science of pickup and now I atleast get a breather atleast one day on the weekend.
t! is quite easy to be kicked out… I fake a meeting or an appointment or take the keys of my car and drive away…
Nah… just kidding… it’s a welcome change to the alone time I spare for myself… With their coming in, I no longer go out on weekdays partying hard with friends or picking up the hottest chick in the bar or the club… I guess it’s a phase of soberness and rest… time to rest and watch the show rather than be a part of it. Weekends instead are when I walk out now with the duo… it’s a complete change or perhaps a shift in the way I now spend time… it’s mellower, less stressful, less energy… which is good… minus the blonds which is absolutely no good.
So as usual the case is the triplets (Sumeet, t! and me) are watching Kabul Express which is a 1hour 45minute movie. It has no planned intervals… as usually is the case in our Bollywood movies. But the theater forces one… so the triplets step outside for a smoke and chai.
Outside Sumeet has a “fuck I’m bored look”, t! has a confused look and we end up discussing the movie.
What t! and Sumeet felt has already been mentioned on PFC in t!’s post and Sumeet’s comments on it. In case you have a hard time looking for Sumeet’s comments, do search for the name “Om”… that’s him… please don’t ask why…or - what the… just go with the flow…
According to me… Kabul Express does lack strong material… it doesn’t go beyond what best the director and writer could think of in terms of filling the movie with though they had an amazing broad outline of a movie.
And t! and Sumeet got a brief of what I thought about the movie during the interval - that Kabul Express is an experiment and such projects should be applauded. The movie isn’t bad but it is not just there yet… one which will hold you by the collar start to end… perhaps it wasn’t meant to be such… but then the meat is far less than what you had come to expect from it… and I ended my bhashan with “I’ll give it a B Minus for taking such a step (experimenting) even though it’s flawed…”
That night I went to bed early… I usually don’t get to sleep for more than 4 hours on weekdays… courtesy Emails from PFC/Desi Train, Phone calls to be made to PFC authors and new prospectives, My own articles for Desi train, the 1 or 2 minutes I spare for my regular day job and the new blond in my life - all not necessary in any particular order.
Next morning at around 6 I wake up and find a couple of text messages and voicemails from Kartik… I call him up and find that Anurag wrote an entire post and when he clicked the publish button, he got the dreaded “Server not found” page. Internet Connection Lost. His Internet service provider must have received the thrashing of their lives…

I called up Anurag… he had calmed down and explained to me the situation… which he has put in his article JOHN ABRAHAM - Just wondering… on PFC. By the time I called, he was writing it again, but the initial one had been written with a lot of emotion… a lot of anger… nevertheless he wanted to express what he felt…
I check Khalid Mohamed’s article and my first reaction was “no big deal”… but later upon discussion with t!, I realized that the sum total of every individual’s reaction will be different from person to person. Perhaps Khalid Mohamed’s article was the last straw.
Yes, Khalid Mohamed’s article is skewed in my view to have run down Kabul Express, an experiment, we need to see so much more. And the fact that he has praised Krrish and KANK sky high doesn’t make us sensitive to Khalid’s point of view.
Even to this day, in spite of Khalid’s skewed reviews, his writings still have a special place in my heart. His reviews were a part of my growing up days.
Add to the fact that “you refused my film so I’m gone run you down” factor came out in the open, when Anurag mentioned how John refused Khalid Mohamed’s project.
So do I completely agree with Anurag? Of course not… because - the sum total of my end of the day reactions is based on my attachments and aversions related to the incident and the man involved in it.
And yet, it feels beautiful to see how two different views can co-exist so easily, though mine may not be far off from what Anurag has to say…
Within 90 minutes of Anurag’s publishing the post, over a 100 readers had already read it. In less than 48 hours, more than a 100 comments and more than a 1000 people have read the post…
Perhaps it was time… and PFC became the platform for this new medium of expression to strike back in full force… More thoughts… some other time… :)

Oz bhai, my feelings are same for KM, but these days he doesn’t seem to be his own self. If we see what he wrote for Krrish (it was just an average review) & gave higher ratings. :) What do u feel?
BTW, check out this writer… Thanks

Since he started to his own movies, KM has been writing some rubbish stuff. Might be this way he is taking out reveng on people for the moviedom. Just thought.
nevertheless, KM articles are a good read, no doubt about that.

Argggghhhhh…. Phata Poster Nikala Hero…damn OM ka parda phaaash….Mujhe tum se yeh umeed nahi thi Oz…lol!!!
I see all the bashing that poor KM is getting on PFC. I agree to some point..but, this guy does know what he is writing about..everyman makes a mistake..everyman does something for favor…I remember one great person( forgot his name) once put up a white screen infront of a class full of students and put a black mark on it…and asked the students what they see…everyone answered a black spot…but…everyone forgot to notice the beautiful clear white screen all around…drift?
KM writes really well..so what if he likes Krissh or he returns a favor to Hrithik…so what if he likes KANK…that is the way he sees his movies…Everyone wud agree that there are days when a mediocre movie looks just about great to you…just on a few days…then again..its a platform where he can express himself…his thougts..we dont agree with him…well and good…but…why are we questioning his art now? beyond me….
