Desi Train

Spent the night awake until 1am talking to guys in Bombay. Guys who are amazingly passionate about cinema and theater. So many creative & full of fire - ideas being exchanged between LA and Bombay. The air waves must be boiling hot… I can feel it… Nothing excites me more than being in conversation with highly imaginative minds… last night was a good night…

Got a 4 hour quick nap. Early morning meeting. Get my morning dose of strong coffee when the first text message arrives… read it… I go “Wow!”… about to enter the conference room… another message arrives… unfolding the latest project plan for my VP to save his ass which is online… if only he had done things according my laid out plans he wouldn’t be in this much shit… another text message… VP looks up… “Busy day today for you… won’t hold you up much longer”… walk out of the conference…

The message all relay to the fact that PassionForCinema was mentioned on Mumbai Mirror… Shit, gotta rush and inform the PFC gang about this. Check the Mumbai Mirror page out… They were even gracious enough to publish the PFC Home page on their pages…

Then Manjeet fires the first cannon. He publishes his first article on PFC about his visit to the sets of No Smoking. Manjeet had been after me for quite a few days - “I would love to visit the sets and watch and record my views on PFC” - I didn’t know what to say. I just want to avoid making any requests to Anurag whom I’ve barely known for a few months… I decide I won’t do it.

Until last week. When he mentions how the media would like to visit the sets . Damn! I go… why not a blogger then? He loves the idea… I rush to email Manjeet… WHY THE HELL DON’T I TAKE AND SAVE PHONE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE… Fortunately he’s online and emails me quickly…

And two days later he’s on the sets on No Smoking, receiving quite a warm welcome from Anurag and his team. Thanks Guys… for being so nice to Manjeet.

His post is awesome… he sends me pictures which he wants to upload. I still haven’t created a manual to upload pictures for the authors… one of these days…

As I wrap up uploading the pictures, I’m called in for an emergency meeting… come back and BAM!!!!!!!

Sophocles emails me… WE ARE ON TV!!! WE ARE ON FUCKING TV!!! IBN7 does a whole ten minute skit on Passion For Cinema… with interviews of Anurag, Pavan(not sure) and Suparn. I FUCKING WANT TO SEE THAT VIDEO… send that line in Caps to the PFC GANG…

This Friday is turning out to be something… Gotta record all those press mentions. FUCK BETTER DO IT IN THIS POST ITSELF BEFORE I LOSE ALL THE LINKS…

PFC authors enthusiastically start replying back… emails in CAPS… FUCK FUCK FUCK… Everyone is jumping up and down on their seats… Congratulating me… yet… I know it isn’t me… PFC was never about me… it was about them and the passion… it was about a collective vision to bridge the gap between the cinefan and the cinefan - the viewer and the maker…

Things are changing… a movement? Who knows… I’m too small for that… but not my PFC Gang… for PFC exists because of them… not me…

For once I can sit back and enjoy their work… and hopefully they are getting the exposure on the global platform which will lead to good things for each one of them…

It’s noon. I’m almost tired with all the blood rushing through my veins all morning… Gotta take my network engineer for a South Indian lunch. He’s leaves for a month - his wife’s expecting a baby this weekend…

Good things happening this Friday - the 17th - 1+7=8. 8 isn’t a lucky number for me… but what the hell… I guess it’s that once in a blue moon day… this Fundu Friday… gotta take off after lunch and watch the 3pm show of Casino Royale… head home and on the way stop for something I haven’t touched in a long time… Scotch… a personal, private, alone moment for me at the bar to toast the PFC gang…

Until we meet next… ya’ll be good, stay safe and have a fundu rocking weekend!
