Story of the “new” Sholay
By now you may have read that Sascha Sippy is gunning for Ram Gopal Varma. According to reports he’s filed copyright lawsuits in court that prevent RGV from making any references to Sholay. Hence you may have noticed the many changes in names and characters, as discussed on Desi Train in the past.
Jaya Bhaduri’s character “Radha”, now to be played by Sushmita Sen is now called “Devi” who wears black (instead of white), is more aggressive (instead of passive), is a trained nurse (instead of trained to walk to and fro to the nearest temple)… whereas
Basanti is now called Ghungroo. Dhanno, the horse is now an auto rickshaw… etc. etc.
The story… it’s no more a Sholay. I repeat. RGV is no more making a “remake” of Sholay. Because here’s the story…
Varma’s “Sholay” is about an encounter cop, who’s on a massive hunt for a gangster. In retaliation the gangster kills the cop’s brother, leaving his wife a widow. This cop and his widowed sister-in-law live in a part of Mumbai where the gangster terrorises the residents to evacuate the space so that a builder can build a shopping mall. The cop takes the help of these two jobless out-of-towners.
Chapter closed.
Wait a minute… cop, brother, brother killed, builder, shopping mall… what the fuck is RGV getting into?

The premise does sound like the original Sholay. But, the characterization…is ewwwww so aweful. A lot of inspiration from this years hit movies…Lage Raho.., Khosla ka Ghosla…and the builder trying to evacuate the land..et al.. Yawn!!!

he should just call this one “chala ramgopal varma flop banane”

On the contrary Land mafia idea can click. Bombay or Mumbai faces this problem of shortage of land and Land Mafia is a real thing there. Its good RGV has changed his obvious intensions to remake sholay and now admitting to make another film. Afterall he was never remaking Sholay with those drastic big changes.

ramu should reitre. This movie along with nishabd will be the biggest disasters in the career of AB. I sincerely pray that the Big B does something to get out of this mess.
