Diwali Drive

A crazy day at last came to settle down again by this morning. The initial storm of Anurag starting his diary on PFC, caught me unawares. By the time I reached my work completely unaware of what the unlucky talented writer in Bollywood had started on PFC, I opened the email box, and a flood of messages started pouring out on my screen.

It went all crazy from there on. Besides rushing to set up the “No Smoking” category, (which I had avoided on purpose to keep the whole thing a secret until AK wrote his first post), to firing up the Photoshop to quickly make a JPEG about the whole No Smoking section to replying emails at machine gun speed, it was a crazy day. Add to that the half dozen system problems at work which had me shooting my engineers all over while running between my pc and the boardroom to keep the rolly-polly Armani suits abreast of the situation… I tell ya!

There will be a lot of thoughts, questions, push and pull of the mind and whatever you have on both ends. Readers as well as Anurag. Gradually it will all settle down and the structure and architecture of this newness will find its own course. Over time both sides will define what, to what extent, which, when, where and how. An upsurge in motivation, enthusiasm, and exchange of ideas will only lead to one direction – up, from here. The artist and the audience, an enriching experience for both of them.

Diwali’s here and it’s time to do something different from last year. That is celebrate it with close friends. The problem with visiting friends in another city is that over the years I’ve begun to grow travel weary. Lazy, though would be a more apt word.

But nevertheless a six hour drive from Orange County to San Jose should be a nice one. Though I would have loved to take the Highway One all throughout, kissing the Pacific all along the way, yet the six hour would easily turn into a ten hour drive. Nah! I’ll skip the Pacific drive again.

I’ve always felt rejuvenated whenever I visit R&D (initials of those I’m visiting and not to be confused with Research and Development), so I’m hoping this time too, it would be a great trip to relax and unwind and of course celebrate a good Diwali.

Though I won’t be completely away from my passion. Plans are to watch “Don” this Friday in San Jose or wherever the nearest theater is. Honestly I have no great expectations from this one. As long as the team of Don was not hell bent on creating crap, I’m fine with it.

Oh missed a couple of important news in the last two days.

Desipundit.com is shutting down. That’s sad, cause they were one of my daily hop on to sites. And they did a good job of bringing together the Desi Blogosphere. There are so many great articles written by desis, that I’ve come across courtesy DesiPundit. Plus I’ll miss the huge upsurge in traffic they used to get me whenever they linked one of the posts of Desi Train. I’m sure quite a few readers here found me through Desi Pundit.

Here’s wishing Patrix, the founder of DesiPundit, the best in career and education goals. It’s sad, but hey there’s still hope. Someone may just come up and fill up the huge vacuum left open by the closing of DesiPundit. But then there’s no money in blogging and linking in a Desi environment. You have to have that drive and passion like Patrix and his team had.

Ending this Tuesday on another of those utter stupidities that we’ve come to expect from the entertainment industry.

Brace yourself.

If you thought Ram Gopal Varma was the only one remaking Sholay, you are about to be shocked.

There’s another Sholay being made.

In Bhojpuri.

Being produced by Ektaa Kapoor – the Queen of Television Soaps. Sholay in Bhojpuri.

Yes. And guess what’s it being titled?

Gabbar Singh.

Ho gaya kalyan! What the fuck? It’s a known fact that Bollywood has suddenly found that Bhojpuri films have a neat market and everyone is rushing to make a Bhojpuri movie (last hear Saira Bano and Dilip Kumar are making one). Admittedly you don’t need much a story idea or intelligence to make a Bhojpuri movie, so I guess the trash which makes trash is now looking elsewhere to make and market their trash.

But wait here’s another shocker.

Ektaa Kapoor will be playing “Basanti” herself. Yes. You heard it right. The Queen Producer of TV, daughter of Jeetendra, sister of Tusshar Kapoor, never wanted to act before, yes that Ekta Kapoor - is all set to play Basanti.

It’s a common fact that she believes in “name” numerology. So all her tele-serials start with K and end up having really weird spellings.

That meant she had originally titled Sholay to be Kholay or perhaps Chole.

Sense prevailed and it is now Gabbar Singh. Fuck me. Why not call the movie “Dhanno”, “Sambha”, “Kitne Aadmi The?”, “Mujhe Haath Chahiye”, “Bandook mein teen goli”, “UUUUuuuu (the Gabbar soundtrack)”, “Chutiyon ki kamee nahin” or perhaps…

influenced from RGV’s title she could call it “Ekta Kapoor ke Bhojpuri Sholay”… it’s a mad mad mad world, I tell ya!!!
