Gabbar “new” Singh

Ahem… aaa… hmmm… ummm… aaaa…. ahem… ummm…

It’s obvious Ram Gopal Varma’s strategy for the new Sholay is to publicize it right from the word go. So expect Sholay-this, Sholay-that news every other week as the movie shoot progresses…

But the new Gabbar Singh… Ahem… aaa… hmmm… ummm… aaaa…. ahem… ummm… Comments please…

(FYI - The tired haggard look in the second pic is done on purpose. That’s the way RGV has envisioned Gabbar… Thanks to VC for the tip off to the second pic)

    WOW
    AB is looking like GOD

  2. WB Says:

God? Yeah sure! AB in the second pic actually reminds me of Captain Haddock (after taking a fall from the snowy mountian peaks in … umm.. Tintin in Tibet, was it?)

  3. sumeet Says:

    God = Sai Baba?

  4. kartik krishnan Says:

Sai baba …. Captain haddock ???

Govinda: O Control yaar Control !!!!!

Bhai log imagination key ghodey itney mat dauado ki woh basanti key liye bhi be-lagaam ho jaaye …

and WB, good to have u back

  5. e.anand Says:

AB is luking better in second one than the first. It suits the role of Gabbar

  6. kartik krishnan Says:

    naaa …
the first one is good !!! :o

  7. Bishu Says:

The fact that RGV has envisioned haggard look for Gabbar instead of the cool cruel look that Amjad perfected, makes me shudder what all other changes he’ll make to the cult classic :o

On similar lines I see the death of another classic Umrao Jaan when Rekha with so much conveying eyes is replaced with a plastic beauty Ash.

But Ash or not, remakes make cash. That’s why the brain-dead directors are riding on yesteryears’ cult movies for laughinhg all the way to their banks with a remixed Gabbar laughter :d

    Totaly agree with bishu

  9. ThE_BoSs Says:

Imagining the Big B saying “Ayeeeeee Kaalia” cracks me up for some unknown reason.

  10. kartik krishnan Says:

Ok here’s a guess work based on sumeet’s tip.
In the first pic did u notice that his eyes’ colour is not the same ????

May be his left aankh is ‘paththar ki aankh’ for dramatic effects !!!

    Filmy very filmy

Posters are like a old russian paintings or a scene lifted from old cowboy movies. Impressive get up, I can say.
    Its my guess:

Playing Thakur could have been bit easier for AB but then whole things could have been fallen on RGV’s shoulders so like a shrude businessman he shifted focus from him to AB by giving him the role of Gabbar Singh. RGV does not want to better Sholay than the classic but a different Sholay so that he is not compared with the original. After accepting Gabbar Singh’s role AB’s job is multifold as he has to apply whole his imagination and acting capabilities. remakes are not new for him. He has played mafia don’s role in Agnipath which was 90% copy of Al Pacino’s Scar Face and AB was as convincing as AP was in original and at the same time they were different also from each other. After seeing these two posters I doubt that RGV has envisioned Gabbar Singh an amalgamation of all the three of Good, Bad, Uggly (Mukul Anand had done it in Hum for Danny) + dramatic mannerism of Pran in Jis desh mein ganga behati hai+madness of Joginder Singh of Ranga Khush+ toughness of dacoit played by Sanjeev Kumar in Anokhi raat.
AB is on stake and given his credibility it would be a feast to watch him. He is brilliant actor plus he is different than others. With his postures it looks he is ready and now we have to see if RGV is also equally ready to capture the brilliance of AB in right frames or not. Its the phase when AB is enjoying his work to maximum and that should be the guarantee that his powerhouse of acting is able to portraite a nice Gabbar Singh. I wait for him to bring back his voice in which he shouted chain kuli ki main kuli in Satte pe satta and does not take resort of the voice which he used in Black in recent films.
