Friday Rants
Friday atlast. Taking half the day off.
Boss wants to know “WHY?”
And I end up saying something that ensures Friday half days for the rest of the year.
“Boss, I have this stomach pain for last few days. Doctors have done so many tests but they haven’t found anything. So they will now do these twice a week tests on me to check for cancer… I’m nervous I don’t know what to do. So I have to go for these tests every Tuesday and Friday. I can go late on Tuesday, but Friday I have to be there by 1pm”
I’m not a good liar. I just can’t lie without being caught. But there are exceptions, that arise out of a few key instances in your life… If they exist in your life you can find them out, by taking the following test…
Step 1 : Imagine you are at your work place… Good.
Step 2: Answer the following questions which are your work place related…
Do you use your computer monitor to hide your face and doze off?
When you see a keyboard, do you see the keys “W” and “.” faded off? Too much of typing in “www.” does that quite often.
When someone from the finance department calls you to resolve a problem, is your first answer “Deal with it, resolving the issue will cause more problems”
Do you always carry a list of things you are working on which you can recite to your managment whenever called into the boardroom? The list is actually a list of things, that in reality, you are NOT working on.
Do you religiously clear all your browser cache before leaving for home?
Is your very first thought on a Monday morning something like “FUCK!!!!!! FOUR MORE DAYS BEFORE FRIDAY!!!!!!! FUCK I’M SCREWED”
Does your morning prayer to God on Friday start and end with “God please make Friday, Saturday and Sunday go very slow”
If you answered “Yes” to more than one, then you ARE bored at work. You need to find something better to do. Which actually you are… by reading the Desi Train.
Actually I need to find something better to do. Which I am… writing this post on the train.
Actually it’s crazy how a stalemate, breakdown, stoppage, motionless, bored etc. etc. stuff happening in one phase of your life start seeping into your other phases too.
For example: For the last few weeks when I get calls from guys to come out and join them at the club, I’m like making excuses to sit at home.
Excuse 1: Shit I’m feeling sick
Excuse 2: I have plans to attend this family function
Excuse 3: I’m in India
Excuse 4: My roommates are sick and I’m driving them to the hospital
Excuse 5: I was working all night taking care of some server breakdowns with my network engineers.
Excuse 6: Go back to Excuse 1. Recycle. Copy and Paste.
Shake it off. Shake it off. FUCK THIS IS SO AFC!!!
Anyways, weekend looks good. Great plans for Saturday.
Sunday, I’m attending this meet by SAAFA where Shibani Bhatija (yep the writer of Fanaa and KANK) will be coming in to give her take on writing screenplays and marketing them.
I don’t think the purpose of this meet, leaves any room for me to enter the meet, firing questions (you know what questions) to Shibani, as she’s coming here to help the SAAFA crowd and the other attendees.
But in any case if you have any questions you would like me to ask Shibani (if I get a chance), do post in the comments or use the contact form to email them to me.
Plus I’ll get to see Beverly Hills. Believe it or not. In the last eight years of living in SoCal I have yet to see the entire Beverly Hills.
And in case you still haven’t check Passionforcinema.com, do drop in sometime. Every day brings in more creative writers, more fun, more excitement. I’m happy it’s shaping up quite well.
So in another hour I’m off and will be going to the new branch of Ambala Dhaba for some stuffed Parathas with raita. I missed going there the last time.
So what are you guys planning this weekend?
Until we meet next, be good stay safe and have a rocking weekend!

hahah oz, enjoy the saafa event man.. and by the way, if any of you (know of anyone that) went to harvard or yale, and is willing to meet with shibani for a couple of hours and tell her about your experiences in campus life, please email me [striker290@gmail.com]. shibani will be in boston from oct 4-6 and NY from oct 7-10. looks like her next script is set in one of these two campuses, so she’s looking to do some research. if anyone fits the bill, shoot an email.. thanks

- Striker, well… I’ve had countless dreams of being at Harvard. Would that count? :-? J/K :d

Harvard and Yale only huh!!! If that writer wants to write a real script, ask her to go to real time campuses where its not all that hunky dory…
Catch a grad student who has to work for his living, get grades that will ensure his payback and fuel his passion.
Ask for campus lives of simple middle class indians trying to chase a dream of making it big in a field of choice and not compulsion.
and oz bhai… kick that writer’s ass doubly from my side too, pick her brains by showing that there has to be logic and that a script is supposed to worked on, not a tailor made fit for whims of super-stars…
i donno if i ll catch her in ny and even if i can, i donno if i ll be able to “do” her…
anyways, i think u ll need the next friday off too… big time movie coming up…

hey oz … ur posts are too cool … no matter how boring th context of discussion be …. u make it very interesting to read …. good talent …kudos to u
and the next few lines u guys read might be hard to digest but please PLEASE THINK OVER IT AND READ IT 10 TIMES BEFORE YOU REPLY …. thnx
YOU are bored with ur job b coz …
1.it was never YOUR dream to land up here
2.YOU are working for YOUR boss dreams and not YOURS
3.no matter how many years YOU work … YOU can be fired at any moment
4.no one loves their boss (obviously)
then think … WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING NOW …going to our desk every morning with a feeling when this day wud get over ??!!!!
did we spend our parents hard earned m0ney and get 22 years of education to work for some slob who pays in some meagre dollars …. WE WERE BORN TO LIVE OUR LIFE NOT TO HELP SOMEONE TO LIVE HIS LIFE
so wat do we do?? … when are we going to break away from these so called barriers built by our elders and the path we follow now which leads us nowhere ….
PLEASE PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT …LETS ACHIEVE OUR DREAMS …life has so many things to offer …YOU MUST DECIDE WHETHER YOU ARE READY TO ACCEPT THE OFFERS ..
there are 2 types of people in this world ..
1.the ones who follows wherever his vehicle takes him
2.the one who reaches his destination by changing his vehicle
WHIC ONE ARE YOU ???
p.s-please re read wat i have written and then reply after thinking about it atleast fr 2 mins …thnx

Valid pt’s Mr. Ajay but if u have read through everything that’s on DT, PFC or for that matter the blogs of all the ppl who are on DT/PFC, u ll find that we are trying to do the same that u have said above.
None are taking the route that they are on cos of interest, but because of complusion but still we are taking time off to follow our passions.
What u have said above has been realized by most in their teens hence u see such high levels of creativity here.
And as Indians, it is rare that u see someone who going off at a tangent to do something different and end up screwing his/her life.
U spoke abt “working for ur Boss’s dream” but do u realize that because of the talent of the ppl here, they tend to run some of the most amazing projects out there and make them successful at their own terms? And trust me, its no mean achievement!
Mr. Ajay, compared to some of the ppl on DT/PFC, I am just a new kid on the block trying to break free but please understand, everyone out has gone through the phase of realizing the content of of comment a long while back, said - fuck the whole damm “what are we doing routine†– and has started on the path of realizing their dreams…
Anyways, glad to here ur views but would love to see how ur doing what u have said above…
… no hard feelings!!!

@ravptor
thnx dude … and i dont underestimate our talented indians … i am just frustrated that we youngsters waste our talent on someone else …however successful the project might be ,the credit wud obviously go the “BOSS” … coz he sat in his fuckin cushion chair and commanded us …. well about me ?!!…. iam in the verge of quitting my job and i have become a idependent buisness owner now to realise and live my dreams …. i feel becoming an IBO is the only way to live our life to our fullest and fullfilling my deeds as a dad or husband …. I DONT WANT MY CHILDREN TO STARVE AFTER IAM GONE …and the very fact that we guys have no security scared the hell outta me …. yes,we are 0 % secure …. time to realise these guys …network marketing is the way ….if there is something better than that i surely welcome it …..
