Archive for August, 2006
It was a bit nostalgic last evening, what with a couple of Desi Train's readers calling in before and during the show. Some have been reading the posts right from the early days when I used to write on other blogging sites. Quite emotional indeed and thanks to my co-host Sumeet for changing gears and getting the train pacing ahead in no time. Surprising calls from Seattle and Toronto and atlast I officially announced my real name #:-s

Independence Day = Confusion Day???
Tuesday, August 15th, 2006
Oh ok now she says it did not happen. She was actually upset by the bad behaviour and misbehaviour of the organizers (:| According to this latest report filed at DNA
“I was not molested,†Bipasha told After Hours from the US. “But I was upset with the bad arrangement and the misbehaviour of the organisers. I come from a profession which deserves respect and I demand respect too.â€
Well the organizers are still sticking to their guns about the breach of contract.
So what the HELL HAPPENED IN NJ? If she isn't molested why say she was sexually assaulted? Attention whore? Mount Everest sized Ego that got bruised because maybe she was made to wait for a few ...
Independence Day = Free sexual harassment
Tuesday, August 15th, 2006
13th August. New Jersey, United States. An independence day parade is arranged by the Indian Business Association. They call in the famous Bollywood movie star Bipasha Basu to join the parade. Read on what happened then...
According to this rediff report...
The movie star was scheduled to lead the parade -- organised by the Indian Business Association -- on Sunday, August 13, through Oak Tree Road, a centre of Indian businesses, as Grand Marshall.
Much to the chagrin of the estimated 10,000 Indians who thronged the parade that started at 3 pm, she did not turn up.
The organisers said she would join at the stage at the end of the parade, which was led by Edison Mayor Jun Choi, Congressman Frank Pallone, ...
Kamal Hassan : The Maestro speaks

The maestro speaks... and wow!!!
Kamal Hassan talks about making films on his own terms to Subhash K Jha @ Mumbai Mirror
Why have you been maintaining such a low profile?
I'm 50 now. I have suddenly realised how much time I've wasted. I should've planned my dream Maridunayagam more carefully. I need 40 more years as a filmmaker. Although it may seem so, I'm not a workaholic. I took one entire year (1990) off thinking I could afford it. I'm one of the few filmmakers in Chennai who takes every Sunday off.
You've been around for 30-odd years as a leading man. What changes do you notice in the film industry?
I'm still trying to execute those dreams that I had at 19. ...
The Sunday Talk Show
Sunday, August 13th, 2006
Thanks to everyone who made it for the show. And thanks to our guests who took the time out to come on and share some valuable pieces of information.
It was quite a trip to see how the show moved from talking about Desi Contracting Companies that one should avoid to talking about some good and decent companies operating in the US. And then we got to hear the other side too, the issues they have with software professionals. If you weren't there for the show, you can listen to it by clicking the play button below.
After some heavy stuff, we moved to analyzing the reviews of KANK and how most of the main stream media is praising the movie ...
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna : sKANK it up baby
Friday, August 11th, 2006
Ever tried stretching your arms straight up for 3 hours at a stretch? Ever tried standing on one leg for more than 3 hours? Ever tried sitting in a lotus position for more than 3 hours? You did!!! HA… try this – Ever tried sitting on your two cushiony bums applying the same pressure on each of them, while forcing your out-to-pop-out-of-the-sockets eyeballs to intensely focus on watching Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna?
If you did that last one, I bet you must have experienced the following hallucination that I’ve incurred for over 2 hours after the movie was done, out, closed out of an oz life. Please email me if you have experienced the same. Your emails will be ...
Talk Radio Last Night : Multi Ethnic pickup
Friday, August 11th, 2006
Last night's topic was far far away from being political correct. To many it may have been quite controversial. But it was important to talk about it, out in the open.
And thanks to Moe, the pickup Guru from OC to being very open to discuss about it. The topic was for Desi guys and girls who are physically attracted to people of other ethnicities, especially white guys and girls. Full kudos to Sumeet, my co-host for coming up with some very crucial pin-pointed questions.
You can directly listen to the show archive by clicking the play button below. Fastforward the show by about 10 minutes to skip the initial music that I play while preparing before the start of ...
D2 : The trailer… Dhoom Machale!
Friday, August 11th, 2006
And it's in. The trailer for Dhoom 2. The first sequel in from Mumbai moviedom that has a 2 in it. Looks like we are in for more action, more stunts, more masala... yet something is just not right. The stunts look like they keep missing their target for accelarating the heart beats... (there are a few though that are quite cool... like Hritik's opening sequence)
Don't forget the Bollywood Predictameter says the movie will be a flop. What do you think after watching the trailer?

Last night on Desi Talk
Wednesday, August 9th, 2006
If you haven't noticed it already, the archives are now up and running. You can hear the last two shows. (The people at BTR though ended up losing the shows earlier than that).
Last night we actually ended up having an interesting show on Jail times for Bollywood. Quite a few actors have been lined up to serve jail sentences.
You can also hear the latest salvo fired by apun ka Gujarat Government on their langotiya yaar Aamir Khan. Check out how a chinkara shot in Lagaan 6 years (yes, 6 years ago) has woken up the lazy guys at Gujarat's forest department.
Plus what's giving Sanjay Dutt sleepless nights. And no it's not the soon to be released Lage Raho Munnabhai.
Quick note.

Desi Contracting Companies : The bad & the ugly
Friday, August 4th, 2006
Desi Contractors in the USA. They run firms that go to India and bring qualified professionals to the US on an H1 B visa. The professional puts everything on line and places his/her trust in the hands of these companies.
And then start the horror stories. In the last six months I have come across countless number of professionals who have received nothing but pain, mental torture, agony and blackmailed by these Contracting companies. They have not been paid a single dime, there have been very few interviews that were arranged for a project and most of the time the professionals end up being interviewed by “other†contracting companies, the dozens that exist between them and the actual client.
It’s time ...

I swear I'm not making this up. I also swear that it's around 8am in the morning and I'm completely sober and in my senses. I also swear that nothing's wrong with my eyes.
Good. Now that any doubts that you may have had, have been cast aside... please check again the picture of Jackie Shroff above that I have modified myself.
Yes, my gentle dear readers. If the coffee just burst right of your mouth or you started rubbing your eyes again and again or if you had your jaw just drop... please try holding yourself together... the day has finally arrived.
The day when we can open the tool box at our ...

Chapter One : The Chase Begins
The train took a brief halt at San Jose. “5 Minutes†– the conductor announced as he walked passed the cabins in the car. The door of 6A slid open. The conductor smiled as he quickly glanced at the passengers inside. Businessmen. In his 25 years of service in the Railways, he was now adept at concluding the profession of a person, by a simple, quick glance.
“Anything I could help you with Sirs?â€
The man in the white buttoned down shirt spoke.
“Could you ask the cart-lady to drop by? We would like some Pepsi and snacks.â€
“I’ll do that right away Sir†That’s the leader of this group.
The guy sitting far away from the window slid ...
