Sanjay “Zinda” Gupta : Transformation?

Sanjay Gupta is working on a number of movies, producing all these new projects that are being directed by others, from Apoorva Lakhia to Meghna Gulzar.

Now our Desi Train wouldn’t have cared to stop at this news station until these posters of Gupta’s upcoming movies caught my eyes.

Specially the tag lines and the visuals of Dus Kahaniyaan and Alibaug were very very intriguing. And just got the news that Shootout at Lokhandwala has Vivek (Viviek? Vievieak? Whatever) Oberoi is playing a bad guy in it. Now that is something. He hasn’t done anything similar after his one and only commedable performance in Company.

Now except for Shootout at Lokhandwala (S.A.L.) the tag lines of the other two look just fine. S.A.L. has a tag line - “Based on True Rumors”…. True Rumors? You’ve got to be kidding me.

So is this the “Transformation of the Century”? Or perhaps Dus Kahaniyaan will now challenge us to search for the 10 originals which they were copied from… Is Gupta-jee getting back at us with such a plot line?

“Hmmmfff… you buggers caught my Zinda… Now I will flood you with 10 stories in one movie. HA HA HA… Try catching that you bloody bloggers!!!”

Perhaps its time to call upon Sirjee and Betelal…

Here are the posters of his three upcoming movies. Check out the directors of each… hard to keep the excitement down even if its Sanjay Gupta.

    Oz,
Did you happen to see the rediff.com today? dated 19th june 2006. It said Now Amir Khan is producing Abbas Tyrewala’s Directorial debut movie Jaa Ne Tu Ya Jaane Na. Starring his nephew Imran. Now if you see the tone of Abbas, i fibd something fishy in it. He never had such a mellow and “i suck up on to u” kind tone.. has he changed then? hmm donno… Any comments boss?

  2. oz Says:

    - Sumeet, I read it this morning. I think he’s just being very gracious that his project got the go ahead courtesy Amir stepping in to produce it. So yes he is being overtly sweet in his comments. But then who wouldn’t - it is just too tough to get a producer in tinsel town to back your project. I wouldn’t look too much into it. Its the product that DT is interested in. Abbas is a cut above the rest writer and it would be interesting to see how he does in the field of direction. Perhaps Desi Train can unleash Sirjee, Betelal and Don Gobardeon to rip the product apart if Abbas falters :d

  3. Nirav Says:

Its quite surprising to see the names of Shyam Benegal and Sudhir Mishra in the same poster as Sanjay Gupta.

I think I had seen a movie with a similar theme starrign Colin Farrell. I think it was called Intermission and it interweaved 11 storylines. With Sanjay Gupta in the fray, you cangt help looking for parellels in Hollywood, can you?

Oz bhai, this alibaug looks fishy. Don’t think SG has it in him to weave a story inside 4 walls at a secluded area.

Accha, how abt a contest for finding the originals from where SG picked up these 12 scripts. Am sure “DT” junta will go all out to trace the originals and feed it to sirjee and betelal to chew them up.

Shootout at Lokhandwala sounds good.Might be like Black Friday, you know. And knowing Sanjay Gupta,I bet the movie will be technically slick, and great dialogues. ;)

I heard that Alibaug is a story about a guy going back to his roots or something like that.A heart warming drama apparently. 8-|

And as for Dus Kahaaniyan,I’m just speculating here,But it might be a bit like Crash. But i bet the Nana Patekar story will be good.

  7. newlight Says:

‘10 Kahaniyan’ is 10 unrelated stories within one film. No theme or any other connect. Bit much, I think but who knows….

  8. Desi Train » Scoop : Kartik reveals Sanjay Gupta’s secret Says:

[...] I open my eyes this morning to read Kartik’s comments on the last Sanjay Gupta post at Desi Train. [...]

  9. oz Says:

    - Nirav, I’m surprised too. Shyam Benegal and Sudhir Mishra. This does seem to be an original script. Regarding your second point, I get the impression that the stories are not connected with each… well there you go Kartik revealed it in the next post.

    - Ravi, Excellent idea. Let me think about it. The top 3 winners get a signed copy of THE MBA GANG and other short stories? :)

    - Boss, Regarding SAL, I just read that the preview of the movie shown the IIFA was “mind blowing”… but considering the comment comes from Indiafm, I’m quite sceptical. I got the same feeling on seeing Alibaug’s poster. I thought it was nicely done. Regarding Dus K… Kartik just came out with some revelations.

    - Newlight, You know you have a point. A movie is meant to be viewed as a block of story which inturn may have several interconnected stories. But watching 10 stories… why don’t you make it for television?

  10. ThE_BoSs Says:

I agree about Indiafm.U hit the nail on the head when u mentioned Taran Adarsh in one of u’r posts.I can’t believe he trashed movies like Sehar and Jhankaar Beats and praised crappy movies like Phir Hera Pheri and No Entry

  11. newlight Says:

And that Alibaug poster… Doesn’t that house look American or European? Possibly a stock photo.

  12. Gupt Gyan Says:

  13. oz Says:

GG, Where did you read the synopsis of Woodstock and SAL? Pass on a link if you read it on the web.

  14. king Says:
