This isn't the Delhi I know. This isn't the Delhi where I spent my most memorable summer vacations as a kid, visiting my infinite number of uncles, aunts, cousins and others in the family. This isn't the Delhi whose history made my blood boil or filled my heart with excitement. This isn't the Delhi of the Emperor of Emperors, the King of Kings. This isn't the Delhi where the Red Fort could suck you in its history, making you forget about time and yourself. This isn't the Delhi where I would spend hours in Connought Place jumping shop to shop to catch the latest fashions or simply enjoying "the" place. This isn't the Delhi I know, ...
Bikram : The Amitabh Bachchan of Yoga
Wednesday, May 17th, 2006
Summer's here. Time to get back to the gym, martial arts class or the Yoga studio. I've been in and out of all three at one time or the other. Dabbling in Okinawa Meibukan Gojuro Karate Do or Takewondo was good enough till the family genetics started ringing the warning bells. Bad knees. Someone suggested Yoga. But it wasn't motivating enough. I needed to be drenched in sweat after a workout. There is nothing more satisfying than coming out of a studio completely drenched in your own sweat (smelly: yes).
Enter Bikram Yoga. I heard about it some 5 years ago. Entered a studio and have never thought of trying out any other forms of exercise ...

Terrible become the day when bad do you start. The Yoda thing isn't working for me I guess. So besides my roommate getting his car stolen, my blood sucking VP back from his business trip and then going on a torture overdrive, this day's going just fine. Honest. There's still about an hour left before I leave for home. And I plan to leave my workplace in style this evening. I plan to enter my VP's office (who usually is out of the door 30 minutes before closing time), pull his European leather Arm chair, unzip my pants and pee on HIS FUCKING TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR CHAIR. TAKE THAT YOU ASSHOLE....
Sidetracked sidetracked... sorry about that.
I ...

Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara
Monday, May 15th, 2006
His last - Maqbool was based on Mcbeth. His new product Omkara is based on Othello. Read the preview on IndiaFm and two things triggered the need to "Want" to watch Omkara.
(a) Adaptation. Taking Othello to U.P. Mafia land is going to be a treat. And considering Vishal's adaptation of McBeth, I have high expectations.
(b) Saif Ali Khan in the portrayal of a person with unflinching loyalty to his master to the point of becoming the reason for his master's ultimate destruction.
The Preview of Omkara from IndiaFm:
The film is Vishal Bharadwaj's interpretation of the bard's classic, Othello. A play that has been made four times in Hollywood ...

Preview of the Next Series

The curtains fall on the MBA Gang with the final chapter, which should be up within a day or two.
I thought this would be a good time to let you, dear readers, know on what the Desi Train Circle, selected as the next fiction, out of the couple of ideas I had bounced off them.
The next fiction will be shorter and told in about 3 - 5 chapters.
Interviewing a Sex-Addict

In trying to open up layer after layer of Jay Thakore's inner psyche, Kamalkanth finds himself getting entangled in ...

“Bye Bye Bhenchodâ€
Yadav raised his gun and pointed it at Neha’s forehead. Neha had started crying. If this was the extreme point of fear, then she had reached it, and was now racing beyond it.

The Indie Scene in India
Friday, May 12th, 2006
So T's talking to me about Indie film makers (Indie film makers - those with 100% passion for cinema and 0% cash to make the movie). I haven't seen her in a long time and we settle down at my favorite new dinner adda, Sitar restaurant which is a few blocks away from my pad. It's Rum and Coke for me and champagne cocktail for her.
T's quite busy with her friends in the preparations for the upcoming Indie Film Festival that is set to go off in a few months in Orange County. It’s a yearly event and she's been knocking on the doors of producers, distributors and anyone who has had anything to do with movies. The objective is ...

This fiction has been removed except for a brief chapter preview. oz is in talks with various parties for publishing his work and hence The MBA GANG and The Sex Addict have been taken down.
Chapter Seven : The Deal isn't Closed till it's Closed
Saturday Noon.
MK and Neha sat in front of the 3 Ms. Modi, Mahapatra and Moopanar. They were the Swiss Indian couple that Atanu had brought to the Gujarat house.
MK and Neha had been barraged with a heap of questions. Modi was trying to cover every angle in an attempt to find if there was anything amiss in the couple sitting in front of him. It ...

The MBA GANG Challenge
Wednesday, May 10th, 2006
The MBA Gang is about 3 chapters away from "The End".
Before I publish the last of the 3 chapters, I thought it would be fun to have a MBA Gang Contest, to see how far this fiction has stretched your highly overactive powers of imagination.
The winner of this contest will get 1 T-Shirt of his/her choice from the Desi Train Store (cheap shit, but hey its free). And an invitation to join the Inner Circle, if you already are not in it.
Plus... yes there is more, if you are in Southern California, oz will buy you dinner and drinks (at a decent place and not at Ram Bharose Hotel). It would also be an ...
An evening with the dead
Wednesday, May 10th, 2006
Thanks to Jim, a Desi Train reader, I came to know that there is a Screenwriters' meet coming up in Orange County. About 10 miles from my place. Well that would be interesting. To go and meet successful (and the not so successful) screenwriters in Southern California.
So last evening, I click on the link that Jim's emailed me and land on the screenwriters website.
Wow the meet ups today. Evening. I'm pumped. There are so many questions, so many things to know - to ask, so many pointers that I need from the greats. I'm going. I fill in my details in the meet-up form and am about to click the "submit" button, when the ...

Chapter Six : The Art of Flawless Execution
Saturday evening.
Yadav was in deep thought. These people had planned it out too perfectly. Someone inside must have given them all the info. Details of the account, about Modi, Mahapatra, Moopanar, about the politicians... but who?
Trying to unravel a mystery by himself wasn't one of Yadav's strengths. He was born and raised to be a brawn. Brains weren't anywhere brought into the picture in his upbringing. ...
Human Bomb robs Bank
Tuesday, May 9th, 2006
Are all creative intelligent people getting into making money by dubious means? No wonder there is such a dearth of script writers in Bollywood.
A 25 year old guy walks into the UTI Bank in Vikaspuri, Delhi. He goes to the manager and tells him that he has a bomb under his T-Shirt. The manager better empty all the cash in the bank or else he will blow himself up.
So what does the manager do? He empties the cash - Rupees 42 lacs (about US$ 100,000). The guy takes the cash gets into a car and drives away.
Am I missing something here? I mean he walked in, took the money and walked out.
Get this: the robbery was on, when ...
Shaadi Se Pehle : In-Sane World
Monday, May 8th, 2006
Shaadi Se Pehle is about how Akshaye Khanna has tragically inherited Sunny Deol's problem. Bad wig days. SSP is about how Director Satish Kaushik and writer Sanjay Chel get together to make a rehash of the 1979 average hit Meri Biwi Ki Shaadi and end up making a much worse product.
SSP is about Rajpal Yadav’s pathetic attempts to imitate Ashok Saraf's character in the original movie. He ends up doing nothing but irritate the bejeezus out of us. SSP is about a bunch of other actors who swing in and out and back in and back out of the movie as if the story was written while the writers sat on a ...

and excited for the june...
