Salman Khan Update

There are some people who “go out looking for trouble”. There’s nothing exciting happening in their lives. They face boredom 24/7. Money, fame and all other material riches has long become a “been there done that” syndrome for them. They need something exciting and challenging to fill their lives up with again. And to create excitement they subconsciously float towards finding problems for themselves. Sanjay Dutt is one of such people. The other is Salman Khan.

His lawyers have successfully managed to get a stay order on his one year sentence in the Black Buck killing incident. The next hearing for this case is now April the 12th. So now the courts will first listen for some months (it could go even for years) as to why Salman Khan should not be sent to jail (as per the earlier court decision). Based on the current chain of events, one can conclude that Salman will never see the insides of an Indian prison.

Having temporarily settled one of his problems may have brought a relief to Salman, his family, friends and ofcourse his fans. Not so soon. There’s another other court case that seems to be turning against him. To refresh your memory, this other case was the hit and run incident, where Salman in an inebriated state (pissed drunk) killed a person while driving his Toyota Land Cruiser. After the accident he got out of the car along with others traveling with him, left his vehicle at the scene of the accident and left. [The next morning his elder brother Arbaaz Khan came in, opened the door of the Land Cruiser and started working on removing the music system installed in the vehicle. After doing that, he closes the door and walks away with the music system.]

And while this hit and run case was being heard in the courts, Salman’s bodyguard who was traveling with him at the time of the accident, disappears. After much search the cops tracked him down to a resort town close to Bombay. He’s now been brought in and produced in court. His statement has now been recorded.

The second eye witness deposed in court recently

Ram Asare Pandey (44), who runs Pandey Dairy at Hill Road, Bandra — 50 metres from the accident spot — told the court that he saw Salman inside the Toyota Land Cruiser that crashed into sleeping A-1 Bakery workers the night of the accident.

“I saw Salman Khan get down from the driving seat. I could only identify him. Salman went away from the scene with another person from the car. Later on, I came to know that the one who was still standing beside the car was his bodyguard”, he said.

So what does all this mean? Unless and until Salman’s defense can blow holes in the witness’s statements, things don’t look good for him. The next court hearing is now on March 31.

The prosecution has 64 witnesses, but they will be examining a few dozen. This includes two more witnesses who saw “Salman running away from the scene of the crime”.

Looks like Salman’s got his hands full of excitement (read: trouble) that he needed and went to look for. No more boring life. You “went out looking for trouble”, there you have it…

Amitabh’s back

The industry can breathe a sigh of relief. Amitabh’s back and shot for Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna on the first day of his return. Right now he’s shooting for his make-up man’s Bhojpuri production. Rediff has an interview.

Rumors are that Abhishek Bachchan may take over the host seat for “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. Here’s wishing the megastar the best of health!

Ram Gopal Varma’s new Shiva

Question: When does RGV get time to sleep? The answer looks like “Never”. On one hand he’s wrapping up “Darna Zaroori Hai” and on the other hand news comes in that “Shiva” will be released soon. Now this isn’t the same Shiva which RGV directed some 15 years ago (starring Nagarjuna). This new one stars RGV’s new favourite - Mohit Alawat (from the flop “James”).

The sick trailer can be seen here. If you are one who has been following RGV’s style of movie making, you would be well aware of the “Shock and Awe” technique that he uses in most of his movies.

But how hungry are we for a “shocking” movie that will electrify our nuts out of our system… Are we this hungry for shock that Mr. Ram Gopal Varma shows a nail being hammered into the skull right at the beginning of the trailer? Apparently it seems like Mr. Varma knows we want shocking material and he delivers it right in the trailer of his new movie.

What is this supposed to mean Mr. Varma? That the actual movie is so full of shocking material that the trailer was a nursery rhyme compared to what the actual movie shall be? What more shocking stuff do you intend to show Mr. Varma? Hammering a nail in a guy’s ass?

Is this what movie making is coming to? WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE? IS THIS THE KIND OF ASS CRAP WE SHOULD NOW EXPECT FROM THE FRONT LINERS OF BOLLYWOOD?

Interesting Movie Reads

Ehsaan and Loy (of the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy fame) provide a neat peek into their lives, on how they got into music, their professional relationship and their views on other music directors in Bollywood [link]. Like the fact that they are quite open and honest.

While this one from Raja Sen is on the same topic I had been working on for the last 2 weeks. Same topic. Damn it Raja, you beat me to this! Check it out, a neat collection of movies which turned the fortune of actors who had so far been struggling in Bollywood.

Raja’s list includes Saif, Akshaye (Dil Chahta Hain); Urmila (Rangeela); Ajay Devgan (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam - me say no no); Arshad Warsi (Munnabhai MBBS); Abhishek Bachchan (Yuva);

The list I was working on had a few more:

Pran (Upkar) - Pran for the first time in his career played a good guy. The life of his career was extended by 25 years.

Kader Khan (Himmatwala) - So far used as a villain, dialogue writer or training stars on dialogue delivery, Himmatwala was Kader Khan’s turning point. Now he came on his own. Now his name was recognized by all.

Sanjay Dutt (Naam) - Drugs destroyed his career which so far was producing flop after flop. He came back, did a few movies, nothing happened. Then come Mahesh Bhatt with Naam. The rest is history.

Karishma Kapoor (Raja Hindustani) - She belonged to an A grade Filmi Family sidelined to doing B grade movies (Govinda et all). Things changed with Raja Hindustani. If you wanna see what a COMPLETE MAKEOVER means, see Karishma’s earlier movies and then watch Raja Hindustani.

Amitabh Bachchan (Zanjeer) - it was time. 12 movies and he still hadn’t made a dent. Then comes Zanjeer and things go all haywire in Bollywood. Then comes Sholay, followed closely by Deewar. Bollywood would never be the same anymore.

Shah Rukh Khan (Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge) - ok he’s doing movies. He’s giving hits, he’s giving flops. He’s a star. But DDLJ went out and made him what he is today - Superstar. He was still struggling with what image to project? Rough? Nice boy? Bumbling hero? With DDLJ Shah Rukh found his home. And he’s never left it since then.

Premnath (Johny Mera Naam) - this brilliant character actor was almost forgotton by the industry, until Vijay Anand knocked on his doors with the role of “Moti”, the evil guy. And he was back with a bang.

A few more in the bag, maybe I’ll post them as a seperate topic some day…

oz Life: What’s on?

Nothing much. Just getting my strength back after the illness. This weekend looks like a rest weekend. Watched quite a few Hollywood movies this week. Would pick “The Ice Harvest” and “History of Violence” as the only barely digestible movies of the lot. “Domino” turned out to be pathetic and “Zathura” could not even scratch what “Jumanji” had achieved. “Flight Plan” was a big let down while I had a hard time understanding why “Doom” was made in the first place.

Calls came in from former PUAs (for those who came late: PUA = Pick Up Artists) who would like to meet and try out new skills. I don’t know. I’ve been out of the Game for sometime now. These days I’m quite passionate about learning the skills of Stock Trading - still looking for the right (read: cheap) teacher, and don’t know if I have enough energy to go out and game in the evenings.

The one part I can’t digest is aspiring PUAs are so messed up in arguing what kind of game to use - Direct or Indirect. Now this guy from San Diego I’m talking to last night, gets into statistics inorder to make a decision on going for direct game “For every 1000 approaches I have got Day 2s (meaning dates) for say 20… but in direct game the probability of Day 2s is much higher….”

Shut the FUCK up!!! This is insane. Are we gonna sit here and talk stats like fools or are we gonna take our asses out of the house and meet beautiful people? Direct or Indirect whatever works for you guys. Ultimately you have to develop your own game, that game which speaks of your personality, your true nature, your character.

Maybe its time to get back into action. Any guys in Orange County reading Desi Train, please shoot me an email. Well… its time to end the show for this week. Project FeelGood follows in a few hours. So be good, stay safe and have a rocking weekend!!!

No desi movie reviews (read:trashing) this week? :-? Some atrocious movies released on DVD recently..and I was quite looking forward to your verbal assault. I hope you didn’t give Fight Club, Holiday a miss. :d

    - Rajesh, Thank you.

    - Destiny, Watched Fight Club during my illness. Sometimes some movies are so trashy that they send me on a depression overdrive. So I end up losing all my energy and am left with no will to do anything except stare with wide blank eyes at the rolling titles on my TV screen. Fight Club happens to be one such movie which left me with melted brains. Will give Holiday a try.

    about varma,

i think he lost it this time.
when a filmmaker cant evoke an emotion or response from the audience in any other way, he goes the ultra-sentiment way or the ultra-violent way.
right now, i dont see varma being any different from that lose who made ‘barsaat’. sunil darshan rite?
