Desi Train is moving

In case some of you are wondering where is my daily weekday ranting…uh…other reactions could well include stuff like “Thank God he didn’t write today” or “Who the fuck cares” or “There we go again”…Alright I’ll change my opening line…

In case you, dear reader, has had any reaction as to why I haven’t posted in a long time (48 hours to be precise)…then the answer is I’m working on moving Desi Train to a new home. It’s own home with it’s own name plate. The new address will be DesiTrain.com. No the site isn’t up yet and you may get an “under construction” page.

The problem I’m facing right now is in selecting the right blogging software. I’m leaning towards static pages and for that Movable Type looks like the best out there for this. But the negative criticism all over the net about Movable Type is hard to ignore. WordPress is the new buzz word, but it does not serve static pages, plus the template handling capabilities are said to be lower than that of Movable Type. The most frightening thing I’ve got to know about Movable Type is that in importing my blog from Blogger, I will lose all my comments!!!!!!

All I need is less time working on the software and more time to blog. If you have anything – info, advise or opinion - which can help me around here, do email or comment in. Would appreciate this!

Good Luck at your new home! and Welcome to Comment Hell as Movable Type or WordPress do not have Captcha…Nightmare switch, better turn it on for the incoming Spam Hell

There are hosting services which will install Movable Type for you making the switch to MT very easy and painless. Yes you can import comments from blogger. Check your email I’ve sent you a list of MT recommended hosting providers.

Coptcha is available for both Movable Type and WordPress.

Why not continue using blogger itself to post on your new server as well?

    - Anon, LOL! Tell me about it. Luckily I found Akismet which comes in bundled with WordPress

    - Rakesh, Thanks! Tried MT over a night. Living hell for people who wanna blog and not spend “much” time tinkering with the code.

    - Anon, Thanks. Haven’t found an easy just plug and go Captcha for WordPress. Depending on Akismet for now.

    - Vi, Trust me. Moving online is as “painful” as the real moving. :-)

    - Anon, LOL! Don’t even think about it. That’s the last thing on my mind. I picked up the design which came bundled in with WordPress and tweaked it to get 3 columns. You’ll like it in another day or two since it’s much more cleaner and readable. Glad to see my blogs have become a habit for you. :-)
