It’s quite a conscious decision for you to not write more than a line back to readers who knock on your email box. It’s a decision based on many concepts and beliefs. You get emails all the time, compliments, brickbats, personal agendas etc. And then there are those emails which your opinion sensors would like to label as a “what the fuck’s wrong with this person?†Stop. Refrain yourself from judging and becoming opinionated about individuals around you. Let it go and try to remember your self imposed rule of writing a one line sweet thank you back to your readers.
It’s interesting to note how the medium of emails can provide no clues to ...
Rang de Basanti: Color me fades
Sunday, January 29th, 2006
Having an omelet amongst a crossfire of college jokes, a dhaba get together over parathas stuffed with youth crackers, late night bike rides or tearing your shirts open in the wide open spaces of virgin Indian expanse, political froth over countless beers, the new kids on the block are having fun with a devil may care attitude. It’s here that Sue, one who wants to make a documentary on the freedom revolutionaries, finds her actors for the documentary.
Saying that the way the campus youth is captured on camera, is good, would be an understatement. A gross understatement. It seems like Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the director of RANG DE BASANTI, did his homework by placing secretly hidden cameras on a ...
And another review walks in…
Friday, January 27th, 2006
Suddenly the whole (desi) blogosphere has turned into a movie review factory. And all the reviews point to just one movie. Rang De Basanti.
As of 3:32pm Google search fished out 1,684 reviews of Rang De Basanti!! What the fuck is going on? 1,684 bloggers in the last 24 hours have seen Rang De Basanti. 1,684. If the number still hasn't sunk in...here it is again...1,684 bloggers have ended up seeing Rang De Basanti since it's official release 24 hours ago.
Three reviews have some negative criticism for the movie, one of them outrightly rejecting it. 1,681 reviews have voted a yes for the movie.
And quite a few seem to have been deeply impacted by ...
Friday wrap-up
Friday, January 27th, 2006
The net's going ga ga over Rang De Basanti. Everyone has something to say about it. One better than the other. Such has been the impact on watching the movie, there is a noticeable tremendous intensity in each blogger's post. It's frighteningly contagious, so much that...
You have just returned from an ass whooping at your CEO's office. You sit down, fire up your web browser, go to Google.com and search for "New reviews of Rang De Basanti". Yes. There are more important things in your life than coming an inch close to getting fired. That shows the passion a person has. Another week like this and you could as well as start a "Rang ...
Mama Mia!!!

Ok I admit, I have not been able to do one thing at work since morning. It's been a long time time, uhuh, a very long time since someone or something has had the ability to distract me to this extent. I'm afraid to get off my chair and leave for lunch. The reason is simple. Mini-me is up, awake, alive and ready to roll.
This is a state where whatever you try however hard you try, mini-me will be in no mood to listen to you. No Sir. What mini-me wants mini-me gets. Its an altogether different matter that the few times what mini-me wants it cannot get. Tragic. Yes indeed. But if you had a magic potion to ...
My Big Fat….WHAT?
Wednesday, January 25th, 2006
In 2002 came a cute independent movie. No stars. No big budget. No wide distribution release. It started small and by virtually the word of the mouth, news spreads around. The movie turned out to be one of the highest grossers of that year, so much so that a failed attempt was made to start a tele-series on it.
There was something about My Big Fat Greek Wedding which reminded me of our own desi movies. There was so much of our desi-pan [Hinglish: Indian like] in it. And as usual the first question which popped in my head was “Why the hell wasn’t this made by a desi?†– We’ve been making movies like MBFGW all the time, ...
Salman copying oz?

Salman Khan gone bald? Shaved Head? I knew I looked good with the shaved head look, but didn't expect Salman Khan to follow suit. :)
He looks rather sick in this picture. Is something wrong with him or is he seriously trying the shaved head look? I had read a few weeks ago that he had got some hair (or was it head) surgery done. Is this cause of that surgery or is it something else? Somebody please throw some light on this. The nonTechie’s guide to Blog-hell

Lesson 1: The journey begins –
Alien+Predator < = Blog Software
{Dad and Mom had tears in their eyes,
Their son leaving home…forever,
He opened the door,
Looked back with sad eyes,
One last look,
And he was gone,
To stand on his own two feet,
Dad Mom hugged each other…silent, cries of pain…
The clock ticked another 10 minutes,
The door crashed opened, their son standing there,
“It’s hell out there, can I stay in for some more?â€
Mr.Blogspot and Ms. LiveJournal saw a smile return back to their faces…}
So you wanna Blog huh! Ok let’s fast forward a bit to the future. You’ve been blogging for say 10 minutes, 10 hours or ...

Friday Fries

So, how was your week? Busy, shitty, ok or something else? But “Ok†is a word we desis are so fond of using. How are you feeling? “Ok†How’s life? “Ok†How’s work? “Ok†How screwed up are you? “Okâ€. Years ago I and AV, a colleague of mine and now one of my close friends, who complains of the shitty cold in Toronto, we both attended the “Silva Methodâ€. The people at Silva Method taught us to use the word “Better and Better†instead replying “Okâ€, “Alrightâ€, “Fineâ€, “Shittyâ€, “Screwed Upâ€, “Fucked up†and whatever up you use. Try using “Better and Better†over the next two days. Check the difference out. And on Monday when I ...
What movies taught us?
Thursday, January 19th, 2006
Received an email from Shuchita, a committed DesiTrain reader, who's forwarded this rather funny list of things we may have learnt via movies. How many in the list were you aware of? My score was 28. Try beating me to it...which I'm quite positive, you can. :-)
Good things that movies taught us over the decades...this is really true...
1. Large, loft-style apartments in New York City are well within the price range of most people--whether they are employed or not.
2. At least one of a pair of identical twins is born evil.
3. Should you decide to defuse a bomb, don't worry which wire to cut. You will always choose the right one.
4. Most laptop ...
A tragic email
Tuesday, January 17th, 2006
I received a very tragic email from Barrister Kofi Afi (never heard of him until this email). His client who presumably was very wealthy is no more as he and his family passed away. Since the the Barrister has been unable to find any relatives of his clients he has contacted me ( I knew it I knew it that one day my Blog would make me famous!!!!) and he has decided to transfer a share of the wealth to me...(Bhagwan ke ghar der hain andher nahin...Hinglish trans: In God's home there is a Dell not a Mac)....now I can go in give in my resignation to my boss, go to my VP, kick his ass, take my dusty, khatara (Hinglish ...
Zinda, where thou soul?
Monday, January 16th, 2006
The story so far: Zinda is known to be a copy of the Korean movie Old Boy. That we know.
Ok wise guy, tell us what we don't know?
Zinda is a copy of OldBoy. Frame to Frame. It reminds me something we used to do in college, namely GT.
Hell that's the zippy car you talking about?
No, GT for us engineering students meant Glass Tracing. It was for lazy students like me. Submissions are near. You don't have the heart to sit and design a gearbox on the big white sheet on your drawing board. So you take the drawing of someone who already has completed the assignment, put it on glass, light a lamp under the glass, clip your blank ...

Just spent a few days (yeah, it's worse than actually moving) on bringing the site up with the new design. Still tons of stuff left to be done. Hopefully I should wrap things up and post on my mini-ordeal.
For now would appreciate any comments, suggestions, brickbats etc. on this new site. Oh and yes do let me know if the site is fast or slow than that at Blogger.
Off to watch Zinda and will be back soon to review it!!!
p.s. By the way if anyone knows an easy to plug and ready to use - Captcha for Word Press 2.0 please email me or post in a comment. Thanks!
Desi Train is moving
Thursday, January 12th, 2006
In case some of you are wondering where is my daily weekday ranting…uh…other reactions could well include stuff like “Thank God he didn’t write today†or “Who the fuck cares†or “There we go againâ€â€¦Alright I’ll change my opening line…
In case you, dear reader, has had any reaction as to why I haven’t posted in a long time (48 hours to be precise)…then the answer is I’m working on moving Desi Train to a new home. It’s own home with it’s own name plate. The new address will be DesiTrain.com. No the site isn’t up yet and you may get an “under construction†page.
The problem I’m facing right now is in selecting the right blogging software. I’m leaning towards ...
