Zinda scores
All bets are off! Sanjay Gupta has won oz over…
Corrupted A-hole. How much did he pay you?
Nothing in cash. Simply in music. Music that touched the heart, and has been playing on oz’s iAudio for the last 12 hours non stop.
Zinda, yes, the carbon copy of Old Boy, has some of the best, foot tapping, touching your heart -music, that oz has heard in a long time. A few songs in oz Drive Raaga (bottom left column), were forcefully pushed into the list, simply because there wasn’t anything new around which had a mesmerizing quality and feel to it.
But here, Sanjay Gupta delivers some delicious, falling for it right away, kind of music. How we hope and pray that Sanjay Gupta can deliver original - touching your heart scripts, like the soundtrack of Zinda.
The two songs which find their way in oz Drive Raaga are personal favorites from the album: (1) Yeh Hai Meri Kahani – by Strings (2) Zinda hoon Main sung by Shibani Kashyap.
The lyrics of Yeh Hai Meri Kahani, by Strings (wonderful piece, who is the guy singing this song?):
Yeh hai meri kahani
Khamosh zindagani
Sannata keh raha hain
Kyon zulm seh raha hain
Ek dastaan purani,
Tanhaye ki zubani
Har zakhm khil raha hain
Kuch mujhse keh raha hain
(Take Off!)
[
Chubte kante yaadon ke
Daaman se chunta hoon
Girtee deewaron ke
Aanchal mein zinda hoon
]
Bas yeh meri kahani
Benishan nishaani
Ek dard beh raha hain
Kuch mujhse keh raha
(Take Off!)
[
Chubte kante yaadon ke
Daaman se chunta hoon
Girtee deewaron ke
Aanchal mein zinda hoon
]
(Male voice reciting poetry…too fast to type in real time)
Ab na koi paas hain
Phir bhi aehsas hain
Syahiyon mein uljhi padi
Jeene ki ek aas hain
Yaadon ka jungle yeh dil
Kaanton se jalkar yeh dil
Chubte kante yaadon ke
Daaman se chunta hoon
Girtee deewaron ke
Aanchal mein zinda hoon…
Now oz is no expert in music, a song is good if it makes him drop everything in hand to listen to it, or else its trash. And this is oz’s take on “Yeh Hai Meri Kahani†– a brush dipped in soulful colors, used for painting, on a vibrant backdrop. Somehow the texture of this song may remind you of the classic style of a typical Gulzar – R.D. Burman combination.
But the most important aspect is the complete congruency between the lyrics and the music, wherein they compliment each other. This is what the soundtracks of Holiday, Neal n Nikki, and Home Delivery were missing. The music of these movies was good, but it falls flat on your ears the moment you pay attention to lyrics, which just didn’t make any sense.
Zinda may not have lyrics which will fetch it Poetry awards, but they will sink in soon and fast when you listen to them. Music which instantly creates images in your mind…that is Zinda for you, from soulful sensitive lyrics to foot tapping club remix versions.
Start your car, blast the roof off, take the Pacific Coast Highway and while your drive caresses the beautiful coastline, let the music of Zinda take over…and if ‘Yeh Hai Meri Kahani’ brings in a sensitive tear or two in your eyes – it won’t matter, the west coast breeze kissing your face will wipe them away…….

Oz
Heard the song. Its really amazing.Strings alwayss had made the best music even when they were teenage band back in the 90s.
BTW, the Strings have Faisal Kapadia as the Singer and Bilal Masood as the Guitarist and Singer.
Strings have the best guitar music as in Durr and Dhani

- Anon, Strings is “magical” in Zinda.
- Punds, I’m too far behind on the music scene. Didn’t know about Strings till this song. Gotta buy all their CDs tomorrow.

That male voice reciting poetry in the middle is pretty good too. Ok, someone has put those down in the comments.
The “khwaab kaanton se siye jaatein hain” part is awesome.
