Good Bye…Mr. Miyagi
Mr. Miyagi has gone to sleep. Forever. Actor Pat Morita as the ever lovable Mr. Miyagi from “The Karate Kid†and its sequels… has passed away.
Though I could never get past the orange belt in Karate-ka, it was the towering influence of Morita’s Mr. Miyagi which had me entering a dojo for the first time. The thrill of learning Okinawa Meibukan Gojuro Karate Do…was heady…though I unfortunately could not become another “Daniel-sanâ€, courtesy the kicks on my ass by dear Dad which forced me to go back to try improving my scores in Algebra.
One thing I do remember and always follow Mr. Miyagi’s advice to the letter is that of - “Wax On, Wax Off†on my car. Even today. And till the last day I polish my car.
Good Bye Mr. Miyagi, Good Bye Mr. Morita. May your soul rest in peace.
