From Hollywood, December 2005
I must be one of the very few in US today (day after Thanksgiving), who has to work. Though the only two screens open on my pc are a word doc and Internet Explorer stationed at http://movies.yahoo.com. VOILA!!! Hollywood seems to have reserved it’s best for December 2005. Here’s what I find exciting –
Aeon Flux: Releasing on – December 2nd, oz enthusiasm rate – 4/10
Synopsis from Yahoo: “Set 400 years in the future in a world where humans have nearly been wiped out by a virus and the remains of mankind live in a city encased in a protective bubble, Aeon Flux, an acrobatic superheroine, is assigned to kill the government leader.â€
Why the hell should I watch it?
Not sure why you should, but if I ever watch this movie it will be because of (1) The beautiful Charlize Theron (2) The ravishing Charlize Theron (3) The mesmerizing eyes of Charlize Theron. The previews didn’t set my blood boiling…but sigh…who cares…its Charlize Theron.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Releasing on – December 9th, oz enthu rate – 7/10
Synopsis from Yahoo: “Follows the exploits of the four Pevensie siblings–Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter–in World War II England who enter the world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of ‘hide and seek’ in the rural country home of an elderly professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs, and giants that has become a world…â€
Why the hell should I watch it?
Based on C.S.Lewis’ novel “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe†– this is going to be a return to the “Lord of the Rings†genre…The previews are awesome and in one word – I’m hooked!
King Kong: Releasing on – December 14th, oz enthu rate – 8/10
Synopsis from Yahoo: “Flamboyant, foolhardy documentary filmmaker, Carl Denham, sails off to remote Skull Island to film his latest epic with leading lady, Ann Darrow. Native warriors kidnap Ann to use as a sacrifice as they summon “Kong” with the local witch doctor. But instead of devouring Ann, Kong saves her. Kong is eventually taken back to New York where he searches high and low for Ann, eventually winding up at…â€
Why the hell should I watch it?
Are you kidding me? I have not watched any of the previous King Kong Movies and the geeky God of Hollywood – Peter Jackson is back after his trilogy “Lord of the Rings?†and knowing him, special effects don’t stand out and say “Hey dude! Look at meâ€, nah, they are so intelligently embedded in the movie. The genius lies in not letting the audience realize they are special effects. And of course the human emotional quotient which Jackson is so adept at handling on screen.
The Producers: Releasing on – December 16th, oz enthu rate – 4/10
Synopsis from Yahoo: “A shady Broadway producer and his nerdy accountant concoct a scheme to overfinance a huge flop and pocket the excess budget, but the show unexpectedly becomes a smash.â€
Why the hell should I watch it?
Ummm…cause it’s the massive runaway Broadway hit “The Producers†and the same team has grouped together to give us the movie version. For me I’ll wait till the DVD release.
The Matador: Releasing on December 23rd, oz enthu rate – 6/10
Synopsis on Yahoo: “When a traveling salesman, Danny Wright, accidentally meets up with Julian Noble, a hit man, at a Mexico City bar, their subsequent evening together intertwines their lives in an unexpected, but lasting bond.â€
Why the hell should I watch it?
This looks like it has all the makings of a light intelligent comic thriller. Plus a suave, but - getting old Pierce Brosnon to boot.
Munich: Releasing on December 23rd, oz enthu rate – 9/10
Synopsis from Yahoo: “True story of the 1972 Olympic massacre of several Israeli athletes by Palestinian extremists and the secret mission that followed in which Mossad agents were sent out to exact revenge on the men responsible for the killings.â€
Why the hell should I watch it?
(1) Steven Spielberg makes this movie. (2) He is back to doing what he did in “Saving Private Ryan†and “Schindler’s List†– that is – having a tight binding the viewer screenplay PLUS the ever important thing which he seems to have lost in his last few movies – connecting with the audience. (3) Eric Bana as the guy caught between duty and morality is so sincere and real in the previews. This could be his walk to the nominations.
