Katrina
Like many of the people in California - oblivious to what’s happening on the east coast, I too thought that Katrina was just another one of those storms, blowing the hats off and moving ahead. In all foolishness I didn’t once bother to read the news in print or media, content, and like so many others kept doing my own stuff in my own small world.
It was a shock, when I switched on the tele last evening to find the utter utter devastation and one of the greatest tragedies I’ve seen in my life. An ENTIRE CITY is wiped out. Vanished… nada… not there anymore. The city which attracted thousands of tourists every year, no longer exists. It’s our time to see Atlantis happening…
And the utter chaos even in a developed nation like the U.S. has left me dumbfounded. Rampant looting is on, people are dead in their houses, those alive have now been waiting for 4 days on their rooftops, cops have quit, oil pumping is blocked, the state of the administration - the less said the better. All the administration has been doing is going on TV, crying and threatening a no tolerence policy….they have not even achieved 20% of the entire effort which would be required. As the Katrina blog shows, nothing is happening so far inspite of the administration’s assurances to the rest of the world in print and media.
That reminds me that when Bombay was slammed by the cloudburst killing hundreds, trapping thousands in water clogged roads all over the city - people wanted to lynch the administration. There were questions being raised all over, most common being “How could the administration allow this to happen to Bombay the financial capital of the world?”…well the administration guys of Bombay can take relief. Their counterparts in New Orleans appear to be far worse. We still haven’t seen any constructive, 100% properly managed attempts with backup plans in place - to bring relief to the people hit by Katrina.
And then I find the Katrina blog being written by someone stuck in the heart of the disaster city and reporting live events. My heart goes all out to the blogger and I hope and pray that every person hit by Katrina, finds relief and peace and their life returns to normalcy as soon as possible….irrespective of the actions or the inactions of the administration….
