Ram Gopal Varma’s problems in remaking Sholay
What’s weird about Ram Gopal Varma remaking “Sholay� No it’s not the mixed feelings everyone around has about it. And No, that inspite of being RGV, one of the creative, “experimental†guys in Bollywood, remaking Sholay would mean igniting intense feelings amongst the movie fanatics who don’t want him to clone their favorite baby.
The weirdest thing is that the Sippys – the makers of Sholay, do not want Ram Gopal Varma to go ahead with the project. Since they claim they have the rights to Sholay and have not transferred these rights of remake to Varma, there seems to be a legal battle brewing up. Varma and his camp though claim they have the rights and going ahead with the remake plans. I caught this news here.
On a footnote, Amitabh Bachchan will be playing Gabbar Singh, Abhishek will play Veeru (Dharmendra in the original) and the guy from “James†will be playing Jai (Amitabh in the original). And while I’m still trying to get a hold over myself from falling on my head, there’s news that Farhan Akhtar (Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya), is remaking “Don†with Shahrukh Khan playing the original Amitabh’s role as Don.
