Good bye, Sunil Dutt

Sunil Dutt is no more. The most human of all beings that we knew through cinema has left us…forever. I am dazed and numb from reading the news this morning and I almost find it hard to stop my tears. May his soul rest in peace.
From “Mujhe Jeene Do” to “Reshma aur Shera” to “Padosan” to “Mera Saaya” to “Ek Phool Chaar Maali” to “Zakhmi” to “Nehle pe Dehla” to “Munnabhai MBBS”, a career spanning more than five decades this gentle of human beings has bid his final good bye to us.
Being the first to make a “one person act movie” (forgot the name), to starting Ajanta Arts a company dedicated to quality cinema, to being one of the first to visit the borders during war time to entertain our brave soldiers, to being the first person to actually walk from Kanyakumari to Amritsar in 1988 to spread the message of unity and bring peace in the then terror-ridden Punjab, to being elected 5 times to the Parliament by the his constituency out of love and not by using force or ballot box stealing and such. Sunil Dutt, I will miss you…we all who knew you through cinema or your selfless social upliftment works…we all…we all will miss you.

.
Sunil Dutt, taller than the Himalayas, destiny made him face so many problems all throughout his life from becoming an orphan at an early age, the Partition, his beautiful wife (Nargis Dutt) who he lost to cancer, his son’s drug problems, the constant evil politicians who would conjure up lies to put him down, fighting for his son during the Bombay bomb blasts and being upfront forthright and take it on his chin attitude to resign from the Parliament, his plane crash and when doctors gave up all hope that he would ever walk again..there he stood up and walked and walked and the people cried for him, loved him more than ever.
There is always a talk between my close friends and me about how brave Sunil Dutt is (now was), to have faced so many struggles in life and yet kept his chin up, his principles intact and his unwavering focus to help the people and spread peace and happiness.
Even though we never met, I know you through your movies, through your stories. Now there won’t be any more of these, to encourage me, to help me move forward in the face of any adversity. But the inspiration exists, forever. A saint in city-guy’s clothes. Sunil Dutt. We salute you. I salute you. I will miss you.
